Abstract:
The talk will compare and contrast the uses of ARCH and stochastic
volatility models. Empirical applications will be used to investigate
which of the models provides a more useful description of the behaviour
of asset prices. Some new methodology for fitting stochastic variance
models will be discussed. Open areas of research will be outlined.
