Accidents that never happened: Generative AI and fraud in motor insurance

Bartosz Gaweda, Milliman

Generative AI is reshaping insurance fraud through fabricated or manipulated images used at underwriting and in claims, distorting both risk assessment and real payments. Based on completed research, results from a global image-assessment quiz show consistently poor human detection, while existing AI image detectors face limitations related to accuracy, rapid model evolution, and privacy and compliance. Mitigating GenAI image fraud requires strengthening the insurance process end to end, with clearer controls for how evidence is obtained, verified, handled, and escalated, rather than relying primarily on a single detection tool.

Milliman kindly invites participants to drinks and sandwiches after the presentation!

AMC - Actuarial Modelling Club

This talk is part of the "Actuarial Modelling Club" lecture series. These events aim to create a discussion forum for actuaries, where current topics are presented and debated. They also offer students - particularly those in financial and actuarial mathematics - valuable insights into practical applications and opportunities for personal networking.

You are welcome to contact the AMS organisers with topic suggestions.
