Modeling - Analysis - Optimization of discrete, continuous, and stochastic systems

funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the University of Klagenfurt. The doctoral school is embedded into the well-established doctoral programme in mathematics at the University of Klagenfurt. It provides a vivid, friendly, and research-oriented environment. In our research we aim to solve mathematical problems by creating synergies from a multi-perspective view, combining the knowledge of several mathematical sub-disciplines. Our offer

The successful candidate will be employed at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Departments for Mathematics and Statistics (double affiliation). The position is a 100 % (40 hours/week) full-time position, limited to 4 years (Uni-KV: B1 lit.b, www.jobs.aau.at/en/faq/), non-tenure track. The monthly gross salary is € 3,889.50, paid 14 times per year and can increase to a maximum of € 4,309.30 (lit.c) by taking previous experience into account. The starting date is negotiable, but preferably October 1, 2020.

Area of responsibility

  • Autonomous scientific work in mathematics within the scope of the doc.funds project
  • Autonomous teaching in mathematics and/or statistics in German or English
  • Active participation in the research activities of the doctoral school and at international conferences
  • Assistance in public relations activities of the two institutes and the faculty
  • As part of the coordinator team of the doc.funds doctoral school: support of the coordinator in handling the project, in particular (but not exclusively) with the organisation of workshops and schools, hearings, and project reports, acting as a contact person for the PhD students, as an active researcher in the field of the project, acting as a role-model for the PhD students

Requirements

  • PhD degree in mathematics
  • Strong publication record in mathematics
  • An interest in multi-perspective research combining different mathematical sub-disciplines
  • Extensive teaching experience
  • Experience in the (co-) supervision of PhD students
  • Experience in the application of third party funded projects and hence in dealing with funding organisations
  • Experience in academic self-governance
  • Experience in the organisation of scientific conferences or workshops
  • Experience in mentoring young researchers and/or students
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab, R, SageMath, Maple, Mathematica, C/C++,...)
  • Experience in gender and diversity management
  • Fluent in German and English

Additional information

The senior scientist will work in a team with the coordinator and the co-coordinator of the doc.funds doctoral school as well as its faculty members (of whom 45 % are female) and PhD students.
