The University of Klagenfurt announces the following position:

PreDoc Scientist or PostDoc Assistant (f/m), non-tenure track

At the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Institute for Statistics, working group Stochastic Processes. This is a full-time position, either limited to 4 years, or limited to 6 years non-tenure track if the applicant holds a relevant doctoral degree (based on Uni-KV: B1 or B1 lit.b; jobs.aau.at/en/faq/#kv). The minimum monthly gross salary (14 times per year) for this position is € 2.864,50 (B1) respectively € 3.803,90 (B1 lit.b) and can increase to €3.396 (B1 lit.a) respectively to € 4,214.50 (B1 lit.c) maximum in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement in the case of consideration of previous occupational experience. Starting date is negotiable, but preferably as soon as possible.

Area of responsibility

  • Autonomous scientific work in one or more of the following fields: computational stochastics, stochastic differential equations, machine learning, stochastic analysis, stochastic optimal control, financial mathematics, insurance mathematics, mathematics in economics and business, numerical mathematics
  • International networking
  • Autonomous teaching in mathematics and statistics in German or English
  • Involvement in raising third party funding and in the work on third party funded projects is desired
  • Assistance in public relations activities of institute and faculty
  • For the PreDoc position: the successful candidate is supposed to do a PhD within the doctoral programme Modelling, Analysis, and Optimization at the University of Klagenfurt.

Requirements

  • For the PreDoc position: Master’s degree at a national or international university in mathematics, computer sciences with a strong focus on machine learning, or a related field.
  • For the PostDoc position: PhD degree at a national or international university in mathematics or a related field.
  • This requirement must be fulfilled at latest by April 30, 2020.
  • Profound knowledge (relative to the level of the desired position) in one or more of the following fields: computational stochastics, stochastic differential equations, machine learning, stochastic optimal control, financial mathematics, insurance mathematics, mathematics in economics and business, numerical mathematics.
  • For the PostDoc position: First publications in one or more of the above fields
  • Programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab, R, Maple, Mathematica, C/C++, ...)
  • Fluent in English

Desired skills

  • Ability to work in a team
  • High communication and dissemination skills
  • Willingness to learn German up to level B2 within two years

Additional desired qualifications for the PostDoc position

  • First teaching experience
  • Involvement in the work on a third party funded project
  • Experience in dissemination of scientific results
  • International network
