The Institute of Statistics and Mathematical Methods in Economics, research unit Applied Statistics, TU Wien, invites applications for the following position to start in May 2017:

Research/Teaching Assistant (PhD Position)

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in high dimensional and applied Statistics that will lead to a PhD dissertation and carry a teachingload of about 1.5 weighted hours per semester (this corresponds to 3 hours exercise classes per week) in the Bachelor and Master’s program of Statistics and Mathematics in Economics. The contract is for a 25h/week employment as a PhD candidate for a period of 2 years with a possibility of extension.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a (nearly completed) master degree or equivalent (e.g., MSc, Dipl.-Ing., Mag.), preferably with distinction, in the following fields: Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics or Computer Science, or equivalent university studies.

Other Skills: Knowledge of German is desirable but not required

Salary Range: The monthly minimum salary is currently (in the collective agreement §49 (3) pay grade B1, basic) EUR 1706.87 gross (14x per year). Prior experience may result in higher salary.
