PhD POSITIONS

The OR group at ISDS is announcing two open Ph.D. positions:

  • Field: Operations Research / Network Optimization
  • Start: 1 July 2007
  • Duration: 3 years (until 30 June 2010)
  • Institution: Department of Statistics and Decision Support Systems (ISDS), University of Vienna

A potential candidate should have a Master degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or in a related field, with a strong background in some of the following areas:

  • discrete optimization
  • exact methods in mixed-integer programming
  • metaheuristics
  • algorithm engineering

The Ph.D. positions constitute part of a third-party funded research project focussing on real-world network design problems in communications industry and services. The topics of the dissertations will therefore deal with problems related to Steiner trees and facility locations.

Candidates should be able to develop C++ implementations of their research in the framework of this project.
