Then join our accomplished team! Setting:The Faculty of Computer Science of the University of Vienna has world-leading researchers in Computer Science who pursue basic as well as applied research. The UniVie Doctoral School Computer Science (DoCS) builds an essential framework to foster excellence in research and teaching. Its main focus is on young prospective researchers eager to make an impact on both basic research as well as applied problems with collaborations across the University and beyond. The DoCS aims to provide these young researchers with the broad knowledge and expertise needed to perform Computer Science research at the highest achievable quality. The Doctoral School trains doctoral candidates in solving basic as well as applied research questions of high relevance. The new work group by Prof. Lutz within the research group Workflow Systems and Technology has a broad research focus on topics of business analytics and operations research. The interdisciplinary group aims to develop novel approaches for solving complex decision problems and explaining human behavior in the usage of information technology. For this purpose, the group applies methods from reinforcement learning, explainable AI, natural language processing, and lab experiments. Applications should hence be interested in one or more of the aforementioned topics and/or methods. The particular topics will be determined based on the candidate’s skills and preferences. Given its interdisciplinary focus, the group collaborates with researchers from both, computer science and business administration. The successful candidate can hence build on a strong network of fellow researchers with a strong knowledge of business analytics and operations research topics. The appointment is for 4 years, whereby the employment contract is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
